Dear Colleagues
We are pleased to announce the International Scientific Conference, which will be held on October 1-2, 2026, in Győr (Hungary) as part of the 7th Central European Legal and Administrative Forum. The conference theme is „Between Politics and Science – Challenges for the Judicial Application of Law.”
The event is organized by the faculty of the Department of Constitutional Law and Political Science at Széchenyi István University (Győr), the Department of Administrative Law and Public Finance at the Faculty of Law and Economics of Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa, and the Department of State and Law Studies at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Opole.
The conference is devoted to analyzing the limits of the application of law in two main areas: first, within the framework of the political question doctrine, concerning the separation of legal issues from the sphere of politics; and second, in terms of delineating the boundaries between legal considerations and specialized scientific (expert) knowledge.
Participation in the Conference is free of charge: both active and passive. It is also possible to participate online, also by presenting a paper.
The organizers are particularly interested in presentations and articles addressing the following topics:
the historical, theoretical, sociological, and practical framework of the political question doctrine;
political issues in the practice of selected national and supranational judicial bodies;
political questions in the area of the right to information (e.g., the possibility of judicial review of restrictions on access to public information);
political issues and the right to a fair trial;
political issues and the thresholds for the admissibility of complaints;
institutional autonomy and legal review (e.g., regulations, judicial review of parliamentary disciplinary decisions);
the other side of the political question: the legal framework for political influence on the organization, structure, and staff of judges;
the issue of expert knowledge and common knowledge;
adjudication by court experts (instead of judges);
sociological conditions and legal considerations (e.g., historical truth and restrictions on freedom of speech).
The conference will be held in English.
The conference will be held at the FAMULUS Hotel Gyor in Hungary.
